About the Department

Welcome to Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was started in the year 2003. It offers one Under-Graduate programme on (B.E in Electrical and Electronics Engineering) and one Post-Graduate programme (M.E. in Power Systems Engineering). It also offers Ph.D. /M.S. (By Research) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

B.E in Electrical and Electronics Engineering was started with an intake capacity of 30 in 2003 and now catering to the growing need of 120 students.

M.E. in Power Systems Engineering was started with an intake capacity of 18 students in 2010. The department is recognized as a research centre by Anna University, Chennai for pursuing Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The Department has qualified faculty members with excellent academic records. The Department is equipped with excellent laboratory facilities since its inspection. The Department has well equipped laboratories such as Electrical Machines laboratory, Power Systems Laboratory, Control Systems laboratory, Electrical Measurements laboratory, Power Electronics & Drives Laboratory, Electrical workshop & Computer laboratory.

Currently the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is mainly engaged in the educational and scientific activities in the broad field related to the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power.

The faculty members have strong sense of responsibility to provide the finest possible education for both post graduate and undergraduate students. The academic strength of the faculty is reflected by the alumni, many of whom are in the top echelons of industry and academia both in India and abroad.

The students of this department have secured almost cent percent placement in various high profile companies. Our alumni who have gone on to distinguished careers as innovators in industry, living and working throughout the world, still have corporate and personal ties to the College through recruitment, mentoring, guest lectures, and other interactions.

The Department has been moving forward in achieving academic excellence with a strong commitment and dedicated approach, by clearly setting up of a vision of its own. The initiatives taken have already started yielding excellent results, in terms of research funding and other developmental activities thus keeping us in the path of excellence.

Program Educational Objectives (Peo’s)

The major objectives of the B.E. programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering are to prepare students:

PEO1 To provide students with the knowledge of Basic Sciences in general and Electrical and electronics Engineering in particular so as to acquire the necessary skills for analysis and synthesis of problems in generation, transmission and distribution.
PEO2 To provide technical knowledge and skills to identify, comprehend and solve complex tasks in industry and research and inspire the students to become future researchers / scientists with innovative ideas.
PEO3 To prepare the students for successful employment in various Industrial and Government organizations, both at the National and International level, with professional competence and ethical administrative acumen so as to handle critical situations and meet deadlines.
PEO4 To train the students in basic human and technical communication skills so that they may be good team-members, leaders and responsible citizen.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

The students who have undergone the B.E. programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)

PO1 Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO3 Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4 Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO5 Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO6 The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO7 Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
PO8 Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
PO9 Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
PO10 Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
PO11 Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
PO12 Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

PSO1 Able to utilize the knowledge of high voltage engineering in collaboration with power systems in innovative, dynamic and challenging environment, for the research based team work.
PSO2 To explore the scientific theories, ideas, methodologies and the new cutting edge technologies in renewable energy engineering, and use this erudition in their professional development and gain sufficient competence to solve the current and future energy problems universally.
PSO3 To be able to utilize of technologies like PLC, PMC, process controllers, transducers and HMI and design, install, test,and maintain power systems and industrial applications.

This laboratory imparts the knowledge about characteristics and behavior of the DC and AC Machines. Well established with all kinds of motors, generators and latest Drives. This is the core lab for the Electrical Engineering branch and the ancillary for ECE, CSE and IT.

Power Electronics & Microprocessor Laboratory

It consists of different kinds of demo kits such as SCR characteristics, study kit for D.C motor control using chopper and necessary simulation software's. The lab is equipped with all the power electronic converters, DSP and FPGA based DC and AC Drives, Digital Integrated kits, Power supplies etc.

Control System Laboratory

This Lab introduces about the fundamentals of control systems theory with emphasis on design and implementation to the students. The lab focuses on technical implementation issues of classical control theory in the frequency domain and modern control theory in the state-space. Design and implementation of control theory is done using MATLAB software with control system toolbox to undergo the experiments like open loop and closed loop system. The lab was well furnished with the equipments like AC and DC Servomotor, Synchros, position control system, Controller design kit, LVDT, Strain Gauge, Thermistors, Thermocouple and RTD kit. The lab provides the facility to analyze the stability of the system. The lab is also equipped with sufficient number of CROs, Digital storage oscilloscopes etc.,

Measurement & Instrumentation Laboratory

This Lab introduces about the fundamentals of measurement and instrumentation theory with emphasis on design and implementation to the students. Power System Simulation Laboratory

Electron Devices & Circuits Laboratory

Specifications:

It consists of different basic electronic devices like BJT, JFET, MOSFET, SCR, UJT etc., for conducting experiments relevant to electrical and electronic devices and circuits. This lab is adequately equipped with major devices for signal generation like function generators, signal generators and measuring devices like Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO), Digital LCR-Q Meter, Decade resistance box, Voltmeters, Ammeters, Wattmeter's, Multi meters etc., There are twelve working tables with single phase supply and two separate three phase connections are available for conducting the three phase experiments.
